20 Sea Buckthorn Seeds
Sea Buckthorn, (Hippophae rhamnoides), is a hardy perennial shrub and is a great addition to your permaculture food forest. It grows between 13 to 20 feet tall and is native to subpolar and temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. The plant is dioecious, meaning it has separate male and female plants. For successful pollination and fruit production, you’ll need at least one male and one female sea buckthorn plant. When growing sea buckthorn from seed, you will not know the sex of your shrub until it bears fruit or not. This will take 3 to 4 years depending on growing conditions.
The berries, often called sea berries, ripen in late summer to fall and are rich in numerous vitamins and antioxidants. Growing sea buckthorn from seed can be a rewarding experience, but it requires patience and the right conditions. Follow the steps to germinate sea buckthorn seeds successfully. (these growing directions are included in the seed package).
I encourage you to research the Sea Buckthorn Berry and its benefits. It is quite a remarkable plant.
Enjoy your Sea Buckthorn Shrubs!
